The Question That Answers Any Question

“To ask the right question is harder than to answer it.” – Georg Cantor

We often get so wrapped up in ourselves – our businesses, our successes, our goals – that we overlook or don’t pay the required attention to our clients.

This is a big mistake.

It’s important that we never lose sight of who is most important to us, professionally and personally. Click To Tweet

A habit I developed to help me stay focused on the people that matter the most to me is to ask myself a question. Countless times a day for years while running my business I asked myself, “What is in the best interest of my client?” I discovered that it is the question that answers all questions.

When I was a manager, an agent would often approach me and ask a pressing luxury real estate question. My reply was always, “What is in the best interest of your client?”  The right course of action was clear once the agent considered THE question.

This question need not only apply to your professional career.

This question can also be applied to your personal relationships. Ask yourself:

  • “What is in the best interest of my family?”
  • “What is in the best interest of my life?”
  • “What is in the best interest of my colleagues?”
  • “What is in the best interest of my company?”

Think about those questions throughout each day. You’ll find that the questions you often get stuck on will often be resolved by focusing on this one question:

“What is in the best interest of my___________?”
