Is Your Mindset Holding You Back?

Mindset – What Exactly is This?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, it means “a person’s way of thinking or their opinions” and according to Merriam-Webster it means “a mental attitude or inclination.” One site called SourcesOfInsight.com quoted Mindset.com which defines mindset a little further: “Mind-sets are those collection of beliefs and thoughts that make up the mental attitude, inclination, habit or disposition that predetermines a person’s interpretations and responses to events, circumstances, and situations.”

Basically, the things we believe shape our attitude and habits and are a good indicator of how we will respond to the world around us.

Who is controlling your mindset? Because if you're not controlling your mind, someone or something else is. Click To Tweet

I want to underscore the importance on working on our own mindset, especially when it comes to our beliefs and attitudes about being a luxury realtor.

Improve Our Physical Condition

One of the best ways to control our mindset is through our physical condition. Our physiology controls our psychology. What do I mean by this? Next time you’re feeling low, observe your posture—are you hunched over? Frowning? Moving slowly? Try doing the opposite—sit up straight, smile, and move with energy. You’ll find your emotions will start to change and you’ll feel better and more energized.

As Tony Robbins says, “Emotion is created by Motion.” So we need to work on mastering our emotions, especially during those times when, as a luxury realtor, things don’t always turn out the way we would like.

Dress the Part

You are a luxury real estate agent. Own it. What do I mean by that? We need to dress like a luxury real estate agent. Whenever we’re working in our role as a luxury realtor, we need to dress the part. Dressing the part affects how we feel about ourselves, and it can motivate us to do things, even the challenging things, that a luxury real estate agent would do. Dressing the part reminds us that we take our job seriously.

Keep Our Car Clean

Our car does not have to be a Bentley, Rolls Royce, or Mercedes. It just has to be clean! My first car was a 1967 lime green Ford Maverick with a black racing stripe down the hood and a three-speed standard shift on the column with a $600 dent in the left rear quarter panel, but it was clean on the inside, vacuumed, and polished. If you’re driving around in a car that smells like french fries with lots of wrappers in it, that’s going to affect your market. Clean it up—you’ll feel much better.

Continuously Grow in Market Knowledge

Lastly, we can build confidence and competence just through having an extensive market knowledge. We should know our stats and inventory. We can go on a MLS Tour and company tour. We can tour listings on our own to really get comfortable with what’s out there in the marketplace.

All of those put together will help us to control our mindset.

Until next time, make it a great week!
